SUMMARY:Skagit Forks/Britt Slough Community Meeting
DESCRIPTION:SFEG will be hosting a community meeting at 6:30 pm on March 4\, 2019 to provide local residents and other interested parties an update on the Skagit Forks restoration project. The meeting will be held at the Dike District #3 office at\n20890 Dike Road\nConway WA 98273  \nAnd we will be meeting downstairs. Representatives from SFEG\, WDFW\, and SCD will be present to discuss this project to restore habitat in a small wetland located within WDFWs Skagit Forks Management Unit.  \nThe wetland is located within the Skagit River floodplain outside of the dikes that protect surrounding farmland.  After passing through the dike\, Britt Slough formerly flowed into this small wetland\, then into the Skagit River.  Such areas provide critical off-channel rearing habitat for young salmon as they migrate downstream to the estuary. Disconnection of the wetland reduces the connectivity of this rearing habitat\, and can trap young fish as river flows recede.  The project will restore habitat connectivity and increase the productivity of salmon\, including juvenile Chinook.  \nFunding for the work is being provided by the Washington State Salmon Recovery Funding Board\, and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation\, including partners from Shell\, Sea World\, and NOAA Fisheries. \nCome with open ears\, questions\,\ncomments\, and concerns. \n

SUMMARY:Make a Difference Day: Cornet Bay Planting October 27
DESCRIPTION:October 27: Make a Difference Day: Cornet Bay at Deception Pass State Park \nMake a difference to forage fish\, salmon\, and orcas as we continue this beach restoration effort in partnership with Northwest Straits Foundation and Washington State Parks at this spectacular location with waterfront views. Over the last few years Cornet Bay has undergone many restoration projects including removal of bank armoring. In 2012 the armor was removed and the beach was restored to a more natural beach habitat by planting numerous native beach species and holding multiple weeding and monitoring events. Help us continue the restoration of this marveling location by planting more native plant species. \nDirections \nFrom Skagit County\, take Hwy 20 toward Oak Harbor; after the Deception Pass Bridge turn left at the light at Cornet Bay Road\, and go to the end; follow signs for parking.  Parking is limited; please carpool.  \nPlease call (360) 336-0172 or email outreach@skagitfisheries.org to let us know you are coming so we can have enough snacks and tools!
