Regional Fisheries Enhancement Group Support
By Alison Studley

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) and the Washington Salmon Recovery Funding Board (SRFB) have partnered to provide support for the Regional Fisheries Enhancement Group program. NFWF and SRFB have each provided $700,000 for a grand total of $1.4 million for the statewide program. Each Regional Fisheries Enhancement Group will receive $100,000 to support programs and projects during 2002 and 2003. The Skagit Fisheries Enhancement Group
will use its portion of the funding to support our monitoring and education
programs as well as further our work with the Skagit Watershed Council. Funds will also help support new outreach to Whidbey Island and the San Juan Islands and working directly with landowners to develop new salmon restoration projects throughout all our watersheds. We are very grateful for the support we have received from these two organizations, but are already looking ahead to how we will continue to fund these efforts in the coming years. Don't forget to renew your membership for 2003 to keep funding for these efforts alive.
