SFEG Welcomes New WCC Intern
By Erin Mader

Hello, I'm Erin Mader and I am the new Washington Conservation Corps intern for Skagit Fisheries Enhancement Group. I graduated from The Evergreen State College in Olympia in 1999 with a BS in geology and ecological studies. In the three years since then I have had quite a few interesting and fun jobs. I was and still am very interested in working outdoors with children. Therefore I taught a plethora of outdoor sports, led back- country trips and taught environmental education. I am also interested in working with plants which led me to do landscaping right before I started with SFEG. All these jobs have taken me throughout most of the western states and all the way to New York. Now I am back in the beautiful state of Washington and wanting to stay for a while.

This job with Skagit Fisheries appealed to me because I wanted to gain experience in a variety of areas while also working for a group whose work I support. I am interested in learning more about GIS and using my data analysis skills to help SFEG find more ways to interpret their data. I love that I get to continue working with kids, being outside, working with plants in their native habitat and learning more about computer systems. The last few months here I have learned so much about salmon and all the elements involved in helping them. I can't wait to see what the next 10 months bring for me and for Skagit Fisheries Enhancement Group.
