Annual Membership Meeting
by Lucy Applegate
Thanks to many wonderful volunteers and donors, the event went smoothly and was enjoyed by all. Lummi violinist Swil Kanim enchanted us with his musical gift, and Richard Osborne, Research Director at The Whale Museum, gave a very well received presentation on orcas and their dependence on salmon for food. Our silent auction has become a tradition, and this year many individuals and businesses were generous with donated items for the auction which raised about $2,500. A big THANK YOU goes to board member Ken Urstad for donating salmon for our guests, and to former board member Bill Reinard for acting as "grillmaster" for the past four years. Students from the Cascades Job Corps Culinary Arts class did a wonderful job preparing side dishes and accompaniments to the salmon, and we had good feedback from guests about what a great job they did. I would like to thank all the volunteers who helped with set up and clean up for the event (you know who you are), and to all volunteers throughout the past year who have truly been crucial to the accomplishments of SFEG. Your involvement is key in our salmon recovery efforts. Thanks to everyone who celebrated with us and we look forward to seeing you throughout the coming year! |
