Stream Stewards Program off to a Great Start!
By Lucy Applegate

The Stream Stewards Program, a community stream adoption program, has kicked off in the watersheds of Brickyard Creek in Sedro Woolley and Trumpeter Creek in Mount Vernon. SFEG was awarded $34,000 from the Public Involvement and Education fund through Puget Sound Action Team, and the City of Mount Vernon is contributing $5,000 toward this program.

The program's first order of business will be "get to know your watershed" tours for program participants. Over the next nine months, Stream Stewards will attend monthly meetings and several Saturday tours and work parties to learn all about the little salmon streams in their neighborhoods. The training will provide participants with the knowledge and contacts to participate actively in the conservation of their streams and the salmon in them. We chose Brickyard and Trumpeter Creeks because, of all the SFEG project sites, these are the most urban and need the most attention on an ongoing basis. There's still space in both groups, so contact us today if you'd like to become a Stream Steward!
