the President Membership: What’s in it for Me? By the time this newsletter is published you might have received a letter in the mail either reminding you about membership renewal or asking you to become a new member. It is my hope that everyone renews their membership and those that are not members decide to become one. Some people would ask, what’s in it for me, what do I get out of being a member? I have heard people from other organizations say one reason is to get a newsletter. Well, if you would see our mailing list you would know even if you are not a member you might still get a newsletter. To me, the reason for being a member is to give a small something to the efforts in helping to bring salmon back in numbers larger than they are today. A membership for $20 a year is only a little less than 40 cents a week. That is a very small amount for the rewards it will bring when it is lumped with many others like you. Anyone who knows me knows my thoughts on the Skagit Watershed. From the Cascades down through the middle reaches on to the farming flats and then to the sound, it is one of the brightest gems in the country. It would be my wish that everyone living in the watershed belongs to at least one organization that works on the salmon issue. Being biased, I would like that organization to be SFEG. The Skagit Watershed has the potential for producing a large number of salmon, many more than it is producing currently. In amongst all the factors that are involved in this, habitat improvement and education are important. SFEG is involved in these two factors. Please help us help the fish by becoming a member. |
